This Is The Best Catch Log I’ve Ever Used

Most anglers think a catch log is just notes and memories.
But Smart Fishing Spots changes all of that.
In this video, I pull up a section of my map built from past catch photos and show the trends that start to reveal themselves over time.
Once you watch the pins stack up, it changes how you look at old trips and logging your catches altogether.
See how this game-changing catch log works below!

A couple of questions about the catch log, and maybe I just have my settings wrong. I release most of my catches, so fish out of water time is a concern for me. Is there a way to make my location show up on the map so I can pin the location faster, it seems to take longer than necessary to zoom in on the map to pin point the spot. Also is there a way that when I take the pic in the app, it will also send it to my photo library so I don’t need to take two pictures? I like to show off my catches to my friends as well!
There is no need to take 2 pictures… I just take the pic from my phone just like normal while out on the water. And then once home after the trip, I upload the pics into Smart Fishing Spots which then uses the metadata from the picture files to plot them on my map while including the tide/weather info from the closest tide station from where the picture was taken.
Game changer. My concern is dropping my phone as I wade fish predominantly
I used to have a waterproof floating phone case for a prior phone that worked great for wading. I can’t recall which company made it, but there are various suppliers who are making them to choose from now.
I need to start putting more catches in. This will be a game changer for someone like me still learning, especially for the tides and weather. I did change my phone settings for the app to allow for the meta data to upload. Wonder if there is a way to log the specific lure used though.
Great idea for logging the lure. We’ll see if that’s something we can add in to the system.
Note: Try making a point to have the lure in the picture because that’ll at least lock it in visually… plus, we may be able to get AI to scan the images for lures like it already does for fish species.
Even though I already commented a very short while ago I decided to view my catch log but found that after clicking on the different pins of my catches when it comes up after clicking on a certain pin that has one of my posts I couldn’t read my whole fishing report it seemed to cut it off leaving usually an unfinished sentence how is this corrected thanks
Thanks for sharing the helpful feedback. I’ll pass this along to the developers to see how it can be resolved.
I will admit your smart spots app fishing log feature is very good i tried viewing mine for 2024 and couldn’t find anything from dec 2024 to may 2025 then realized that’s the time period when my boat was being rebuilt from that horrible drunk driver accident that happened on 1st Dec 2024 and my boat was finally finished in May of 2025 so obviously those dates had nothing but the dates I did find showed up well and because I am very specific in describing everything they are very detailed but I know how important catch logs can be to try and find trends when conditions are tough like they have been for me these last 3 trips anyways Luke great info and so very true thanks for it and all you do😉👍
Thanks for sharing your experience using this catch log feature. I’m glad that your boat is back in action so that you can get back out on the water to continue adding to your catch log.
Having trouble figuring out distinction between Waypoint and Catch Log. Every time I import catch, it creates another waypoint for that catch. How do you add multiple catches to a single waypoint without creating a new waypoint?
We’re in the process of combining Catch Logs & Waypoints since they are essentially the same thing (each catch log creates a new Waypoint).
Since each catch log picture upload creates a new waypoint, there isn’t a way to combine them into 1 unless you take a picture of all of the fish together. The benefit of having each picture create its own waypoint is so that the timing to tide cycle and weather at the point of each catch can be more accurate.
The Smart Spots app is an amazing tool. And I love the ability to upload pics to create a catch log. Is there a setting that I need to turn on to have weather/tide/moon info associated with my catches? The date/time and location are accurate based on the metadata from the pic, but the log doesn’t show any weather/tide/moon info for my catches? Thanks!
Hey Mark, I’m so sorry to see that the weather info is not showing up with your picture. Did you upload the images as a post in the Community? Or did you upload it straight into the Catch Log feature in the Tools section?
I uploaded the photos straight into the Catch Log in the Tools section. I did not upload it into any post in the Community.
Is there a way to post to community without it adding to the catch log? I like to upload all my pics via Import Catch Log and later post highlights to community. But that ends up showing the same catch twice in SFS and I have to delete the dups in SFS.
Hey Ralph, thanks for posting the question. We’re working on building a feature that allows you to block pics from Community reports from showing up on the map.
But overall, I recommend posting all of your pics via Community posts because you’ll get all of the same pins on your map while also having the trip summary from your report attached to all of the pics/pins.
Thanks for highlighting what I’m sure will be an extremely useful tool in the app. From your post it seems easy enough that someone as tech challenged as I am will be able to use it!
Yes, this tool is very easy to use… even for tech challenged people like us.
the tech is great, I like the catch log for help keeping track of the data of the catch,
Thanks Tim!
