The Hybrid Plug That You Must Try in Fall (BIG Fish Slayer)

Fall fishing is here: cooler temps, the mullet run, and fired-up fish. And there’s one lure that’s been surprising everyone who ties it on… even our dad, who swore it “looked too weird to catch fish.”
We’re talking about the Skinny Lipper Hybrid Plug, a lure that bridges topwater and subsurface. It floats when still, then dives just inches under the surface when retrieved. Perfect for covering shallow water fast and drawing explosive reaction strikes.
Watch the video below to see how Luke fishes it, which size to use, and when to switch to other options like the Prawn USA.

- Skinny Lipper Jr.
- Skinny Lipper Bundle (Save 20%)
- Prawn USA
- Slam Stick Traveler Rod
Here’s an aspect that makes the Skinny Lipper unique: it has internal weight-shift tech that slides to the tail during the cast, launching it way farther than soft plastics.
When it lands, that weight snaps back into place for a perfectly balanced, natural retrieve.
Luke calls it his fall confidence lure because:
- It outcasts everything else
- It mimics fleeing mullet perfectly
- Inline hooks glide smoother and spook less fish
- Bigger average fish, fewer short strikes

This is a really good bait for stripers in shallow water.
Good podcast.
Well like I said before although I do own the skinny lipper plugs in various sizes I have yet to really do much on them unlike the rapala or the bomber or smithwick rouge series plugs that have been around decades before the skinny lipper was made i have caught many saltwater inshore fish on these and the one thing I like about them that the skinny lipper lacks is a lip that is bigger that makes the plug dive deeper on the retrieve and all one needs to do if a shallower depth is desired is to reel just a bit slower but I know the skinny lipper had its place just saying thanks for the info and all you do🤔
We need more bait caster
Thanks, fellas! I love my skinny lippers. I fish the surf 90% of the time and always bring along a rigged skinny lipper. Great for along the edge of sandbars, submerged rocks, troughs.
Great lure.

Hey Dan, I’m sorry to see that you are not able to view this video. Can you help me understand exactly what happens when you are trying to view it?
Note: This is not a members-only video since it’s just a high level overview of a lure.
2 things
Can I troll the skinny Lipper and what kind of knot to the leader?
Yes, but it’s best in shallow water zones which often aren’t the best for trolling. The knot we recommend is the Non-Slip Loop knot.
Once again the Simonds boys knock it out of the park!
That travel rod packs really well in a. RV. I have been a member since 2018 and I finally got a chance to fish for an hr. Loved the rod. The best rod I have ever owned
