As we get further into Fall, topwater lures can be very productive.

In this video I will be breaking down my 3 favorite ways to retrieve topwater to get some BIG strikes, along with some helpful tips to correct bad technique.

another good report. The old man use to tell me let the rigs get out about 2 to 3 foot before working the action.

Great stuff as usual. I always start with topwater early in the morning from dark until about 30 minutes after sunrise. I agree varying the retrieve until you find what they want for breakfast is the key. One of my favorite retrieves is drag-twitch-twitch- paurse. Another is very similar but I twitch-twitch first and then drag and pause. This seems to work best for trout and snook like a more constant retrieve; so, eliminate the pause.

For you newcomes to top water, be sure you don’t set the hook too soon. Give the fish time to tighten your line for a few seconds after the strike and then set the hook. This can take a lot of discipline when starting out. Your natural reachtion is going to be to set the hook at the time of the hit.
