Oyster beds are a key feeding area for inshore fish, and they can be easily be found before you even hit the water!
However, you have to know what you are looking for, and there are some tricks to finding them that you are missing using regular maps – which I’ll be showing in this video.
Enjoy!

Hey Tony – Great info! I often fish Great Bay & the Mullica River in NJ and fortunately we have a good number of healthy and growing oyster beds. However, they don’t show up in the Smart Spots app. I guess you’re not pulling in the NJ data yet. Do you know if your folks are planning to add that in soon?
Thanks, Tom
PS – FYI here’s a URL for the NJ site with charted locations of the many oyster bed leases.

Great video and a wealth of information Tony …. Job well done and thank you
Thanks Thomas!
I fish Calcasieu Lake in Louisiana. SFS does not show any of the oyster reefs. Is this something
that can be added and maybe the outlines of the artificial reefs?
Hey Steven! The data we use is provided by the state, so if there is nothing showing in a particular area that you know then there may not be any data available for it but we’ll take a look!
Great info. SFS app is great. One question though. I fish the Pellicer Creek area in Palm Coast a lot. We don’t have any sea grass, but have an over abundance of oyster beds in the area. When looking at that many oysters, what other things can I look for that may make one group of oysters better than the next?
Hey Nathan! With Oyster beds, just like any other piece of structure, signs of life will be key. Baitfish, birds, etc. I try to find isloated oyster bars as well instead of a big cluster of them.
Nice report. Particularly have enjoyed the presentations on finding redfish in NC and VA
Thank you for the great feedback William!
