This new jerk vs. shrimp lure contest performed right after a late Feb cold front reveals insightful results for anyone who is eager to know which specific lure and/or color is best to use.
For many years, I thought that fish wouldn’t eat well after cold fronts even if they are early spring.
But it turns out that I was simply using the wrong lures and fishing the wrong spots.
Over time, I finally learned that those same conditions actually make fish behavior more predictable, and they absolutely will eat if presented with a good offering.
In this video, you’ll see what really matters for catching fish post cold front… even with a loud dog on the boat the whole time.

Final Thoughts
Cold fronts most often force fish into tighter quarters, so spot selection is more crucial than ever since most of the water is void of fish.
Those who can find the spots where fish move to in order to avoid being too cold will be catching the most fish regardless of which lures/baits are used.
This trip was a good reminder that our focus needs to be on finding the fish without worrying much about minute details about which lure is used.
These 2 different lure molds in different colors had very similar results… the biggest factor by far was to have a few spots lined up based on the conditions knowing that at least 1 should be holding a good amount of fish.
And the Smart Fishing Spots software is by far the best way to easily find good spots since it has high-resolution satellite maps along with 1-foot contour layers so that you can find both shallow and deep spots for catching redfish, seatrout, snook, and/or flounder.
IMPORTANT REMINDER
The 2 core benefits we promise to Insider Club members is to be able to find and catch fish easier than ever before while saving money on fishing equipment.
So I am including links to the quickest ways to achieve each:

Great video, Luke (as always)
Thanks James!
Good video… really shows that spot selection is still most important
Yes. The biggest surprise that I’ve had after doing many lure contests is that it seems as if us humans care much more about the lure specs than the fish do:)
Thanks for the information and video. Just more good stuff to work with!!! Thanks again and Tight Lines 🎣🎣🎣
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Harvey!
Great video
Thanks Carl
Awesome video and demonstration
Thanks Eduardo
Great info and timely with our current weather. Would be interested with a repeat using the same color for both lures. Thanks!
I normally make sure to keep the tests down to just 1 variable. But in this case, I was putting my most trusted color for the Prawn USA Jr against my most trusted color for the Tweaker.
And as usual, the slight color and shape differences of these two lures had very similar results.
Great video! Love your work, I’ve had good luck with the 2.0 and Moonwalker, going to try the Prawn USA and junior whis season.
Thanks James! I’m sure that you’re going to enjoy adding the Prawn into your arsenal… it has a knack for catching the bigger/smarter fish (the Prawn USA lures hold most of my PBs in spite of them only being around for around 4 years).
Wow, Luke… had no idea that most of your PB’s were caught on Prawn USA lures. That is quite a track record!
Great article. I seem to have much better luck with jerk and no luck with shrimp. Time to get the shrimp out again and give it a try.
They both work great. The Prawn USA lures seem to fool the biggest fish more often than any other lure I’ve used though.
Love it when Otis comes along.🤗🎣🙏💯
He sure makes every trip more of an adventure.
Nice trout. Results seem pretty close. I’d recommend repeating the experiment multiple times in similar conditions to set a pattern. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Lyle. Here’s another very similar test in which these 2 lures are put up against one another (just slightly different colors)… as you’ll see, very similar results: https://11golfpicks.com/articles/winter-post-front-strategy/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E
