Catch BIG Fish On The Jetties (Best Baits & Pro Rigging Tips)

If you’ve ever fished the jetties and wondered why the boat next to you is reeling in big drum, redfish, and sheepshead while you’re getting pecked by pinfish… this one’s for you.

Because the truth is: bait and rigging matter A LOT when you’re fishing heavy structure.

In this video, we teamed up with Captain Sharky from Outcast Charters in Galveston, TX to break down the exact baits and setups he uses to hook into jetty monsters.

Sharky’s been guiding for over a decade and regularly puts his clients on trophy drum, upper-slot reds, and even surprise sheepshead using these rigs.

Here’s what you’ll see in the video:

🎣 The Top 3 Jetty Baits:

  • Live shrimp (rigged to survive longer in current)

  • Fresh mullet (cut into 3 types of bait)

  • Whole blue crab (with a unique twist for scent dispersion)

🦀 The “Crab Claw Hack” that helps you get more bites from big fish.

🧠 Simple rigging tricks:

  • How to tie on a pyramid sinker to anchor your bait in current

  • Why leaving a long tag end on your knot can save your rig

  • The loop-to-hook connection that makes re-rigging fast & easy

🎥 BONUS: You’ll even see some on-the-water action where these exact rigs help Captain Sharky land a jetty drum.

Conclusion

If you’re fishing rocks, jetties, or heavy current structure — this is a must-watch. One small tweak in your rig could be the difference between feeding the pinfish… or landing the fish of a lifetime.

And if you want help finding where to use these rigs…

Definitely awesome video and so is your presentation of it …. Truly informative on the rigging and preparation of the mullet and blue crab … Little difference in the way do it here in northeast Florida but you can bet I’ll be trying it for sure ……. I’m surprised you are setting the hook when using a circle hook. I tell my customers to to just start reeling and the hook will catch the fish in the side of the mouth. Also, sharks have cartilage, mullet have bones.
