Summer Fishing Tip: Slow Down for More Bites!

Hey everyone, Pat here from Salt Strong.
When August rolls around and water temps hit their peak, the bite changes. Fish just aren’t going to burn a ton of energy chasing fast-moving prey in this heat — just like you wouldn’t want to run around in 95° weather.
Check out how I approach lethargic fish in the dog days of summer in the video below!
For the recommended gear that I used in this video, you can find it here:
Another bonus? Hard baits like the Flea Flicker hold up better against nuisance fish like puffers and needlefish, which love to shred soft plastics this time of year.
Here’s my go-to summer approach:
-
Look for fish up shallow early or late in the day
-
Cast past them and let the lure sit before starting your retrieve
-
Mix up your pause lengths and twitch intensity until you find the pattern
-
Stick with it once you see results
If you haven’t tried the Flea Flicker yet, we’ve got it in two new colors, Mullet HD and Pilchard HD, both designed to match the real thing.
Slow it down, keep it in front of them, and you’ll see more strikes this summer.

Tight lines,
Pat
So if you are having problems catching fish in the summer, be sure to slow down and use a lure like the Flea Flicker that allows you to do so.

Always appreciate you, Pat
Thanks Vernon! Hope it helps.
As always, Pat, great lesson. Pretty sure you have gills under that beard. You think like a fish.
Thanks Marvin!
Great insights and lessons as always Pat. In relation to your question, I have not tried the Flea Flicker but I have used the Mirrolure Mirrodine MR17 extensively for Trout with great success. This lure seems to function in a similar fashion.
Thanks Ron! The Mirrolure and the Flea Flicker operate close to the same. The Flea Flicker does sink slower so it can be worked slower.
