What Anglers Get Wrong About Live And Natural Bait

Most anglers believe that live or natural bait will always out-fish artificial lures, but that’s simply not true. In fact, there are plenty of situations where lures will not only match live bait, but actually outperform it. In this video, we’ll show you a time when you should put the live bait away, tie on a lure instead, and start catching more fish with less hassle.

Final Thoughts
There’s nothing wrong with fishing natural bait, it absolutely has its place. But when the water rises, the wind changes, or fish start to scatter, it’s time to pick up an artificial.
That day, switching over to the Mulligan 4” Slam Shady Paddletail turned everything around. I caught a tarpon, a few snook, and a solid redfish.

I was put a shrimp on a hook then wait. Less than six months ago I decided I’m going to figure out what I’m doing, joined salt strong and started to learn. I haven’t figured it all out yet but really enjoy throwing a paddle tail now searching for fish. I still bring the cast net and have some fresh shrimp with me. Thanks Pat!
Always good to branch out!
I will match my approach to the situation. I like artificial because I am more engaged in the process. I’m moving constantly and, to me, that’s a rich learning environment. Plus’s, using artificial’s, it eliminates the quantity of trash fish I have to deal with. As you said, confidence in the approach makes a big difference. Starting out with artificial was slow and difficult in the beginning. But I was observing the bait I was trying to imitate. Once I learned how to imitate that, my success rate increased.
Reducing the amount of trash fish is one of the biggest reasons I use artificial lures most of the time. Great point.
Good- and fair- points made, as always. Thanx!
Thanks for watching Paul!
thanks
You are welcome!
Pat, great video as usual! Thanks! It’s funny that I have fished with another angler who believes in live bait only and even though I would out fish him with artificials he refuses to change. He will give an artificial a couple of casts and then claim they don’t work, as I continue to out fish him. Some people are just resistant to change! Ha, ha!!
You know, fishing is all about hope and what you have confidence in will give you that hope. Sometimes even more so than prof the other way is working better. I can admit that I will be the same way in the opposite direction, I’ll throw lures until I’m blue in the face just knowing that live bait would probably be better.
Great intel, thanks Pat!!!
Thanks JD!
Thank you Pat
You’re welcome Richard!
Thanks for the video, Pat!
You are welcome and thanks for watching!
What do you think about a small chum bag. ? In the back waters ??
It can work, especially if there’s current. What I like to do best is just verify that there is fish around before I even put out a line. Sending a chum bag out or cut bait without any fish in the area can be a waste of time.
Great video Pat. Thanks.
Thanks Ken!
